The 401k and Roth IRA Baby-Boom

The coming years will be interesting for people who have been wise enough to plan for retirement, and who have set aside earnings in their 401k and Roth IRA accounts. Theoretically this has made wonderful sense. However, the government has, in its self-interested wisdom, also created mechanisms to reclaim large portions of 401k funds. With Baby-Boomers approaching and entering into retirement, they are suddenly faced with a window of time during which they must make effective use (or movement) of their nest eggs.

Enter Uncle Sam. Up-and-coming retirees are not the only ones eyeing their 401k's. With unfathomable value (trillions of dollars), the government is poised to tax, penalize, and claim whatever it can from the 401k bonanza. Those who have saved with their 401k's have been astute to the laws and mechanisms of savings. However, the wisdom once displayed must now evolve.

Tax and investment advisors are abundant. They should be consulted as part of every 401k-holder's retirement plan. Failure to be wise will result in millions of people unnecessarily losing billions of hard-earned 401k dollars.

We cannot (and will not) specifically advocate any tax planner or investment advisor specifically. However, we encourage you, in the spirit of the "Oil Activist" to study your 401k options well. Plan with zeal to protect and grow what you have already saved. Don't overlook your 401k advisors and tax professionals.
